Minister Cwele and Honourable Chief Thesele Masekibane, Minister of Communications, Science and Technology in the Kingdom of Lesotho sign MOU

cwele mou lesothoMinister and Honorable Chief Thesele Masekibane, Minister of Communications, Science and Technology in the Kingdom of Lesotho today signed the below MOUs on the sidelines of the ITU Plenipotentiary in Dubai:
 
  1. South Africa – Lesotho Memorandum of Understanding on Information and Communications Technologies

a)  The Objectives of this MOU on ICT with Lesotho Counterparts is to encourage and promote working relations between the two countries which will facilitate joint programme for the ICT backbone connectivity to global infrastructure in an effort to mitigate challenges faced by a landlocked country like the Kingdom of Lesotho.

b) The focus is to create joint action programmes that will allow the Kingdom of Lesotho to access networks in order to benefit from the SADC Programmes within the Region.

c) In this regard, the scope of collaboration calls upon the two parties to encourage a closer working relations necessary for the technical institutions, government, regulatory, business, research, education and other organisations in ICTs administration to form strategic partnerships.

  1. South Africa – Lesotho Cross Border Coordination of Frequency Spectrum Agreement

a) The Objective of this Agreement is to promote cooperation in the fields of radio frequency coordination and spectrum management on the basis of equality and mutual benefit in accordance with the domestic laws of the Parties and their obligations under international law.

b) The focus of the Agreement will be to bring together technical and regulatory institutions of the two countries to coordinate frequency spectrum in order to mitigate against the harmful signal spillage.

The signing was witnessed by the Directors-General of the two Ministries, Messrs Lira Moeti and Robert Nkuna and overseen by the South African DDG, Nonkqubela Jordan.
