Minister STELLA NDABENI-ABRAHAMS Leads an Inter-Departmental Engagement on CyberSecurity Awareness

LIMA Outreach Programme Group PhotoMinister of Communications, Ms Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, led an inter-departmental outreach programme on Cybersecurity awareness in Eertserust, Pretoria on 30 November 2018. Deputy Ministers Pinky Kekana, Bulelani Magwanishe, Cassel Mathale and Madala Masuku accompanied the Minister.

The outreach programme, which was held in collaboration with the Leaders in Motion Academy (LIMA), sought to create awareness on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Cybersecurity - specifically on online safety, cyberbullying and cybercrimes. As the country gears for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it is important to that all sectors are engaged, including the creative industry. As such, the partnership with LIMA and other stakeholders in the creative industry is imperative.

Prior to the outreach programme, LIMA students were trained on 4IR and Cybersecurity. The students, assembled in three groups, subsequently put together short films on these focus areas and presented to a judging panel comprised of the Minister, Deputy Ministers and key ICT stakeholders. Competition winners walked away with entrance to the illustrious CISCO Cybersecurity Training programme starting in January 2019.

Congratulating the winners, Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams noted that government has a responsibility to promote economic growth and create an enabling environment for entrepreneurs, including those in the creative sector.

LIMA, which is touted as the first entrepreneurial film academy in South Africa, offers a well-crafted, accredited, fully funded theoretical and practical film course targeted at aspiring township filmmakers. Participants receive tuition in accredited film and video production theory, practical instruction on productions and have access to industry professionals during the 12-month programme.  The Academy operates within the South African Creative Industries Incubator, in partnership with the Thato Molamu Foundation.
